Ruben Peeters is a member of the Brussels bar, holds a master’s degree in law (KULeuven - 1998) as well as a master’s degree in intellectual property rights (KUBrussel - 1999), and speaks Dutch, French and English. He is a member of the Licensing Executives Society (LES) and of the Association Internationale pour la Protection de la Propriété Intellectuelle (AIPPI).
He started his legal training in Antwerp in 1999 in a general commercial law practice at the firm formerly known as Liedekerke, Wolters, Waelbroeck, Kirkpatrick & Cerfontaine. After 2 years he switched to the Brussels bar, where he was active for 7 as an attorney-at-law in the IP team of the firm Bird & Bird.
He has acted in patent litigation with often international dimensions and against a background of various technological fields, from coffee machines, robotics and polymers to medical devices, biotechnology and pharmaceuticals. Many of these court cases have resulted in published case law, and gave him the opportunity to build considerable experience with procedural aspects of patent litigation (e.g. cross-border preliminary injunctions and negative declarations, urgency proceedings, descriptive seizure and other investigations by court-appointed experts), as well as with specific issues of substantive patent law, such as extent of protection, indirect infringement, experimental use and personal prior user rights.
Moreover, he as a sound experience in advice and litigation regarding other area’s of I.P. law, as well as negotiations of settlement agreements, technology transfer, and I.P. aspects of commercial and IT- agreements.
